Internship Manager
About the Role
Reporting to the Executive Director and the Program Director, the Internship Manager holds primary responsibility for the quality and outcomes of Brighter Boston’s Internship Program. This role is part of the Leadership team and will help develop and implement the annual plan for Brighter Boston. The Internship Manager will oversee up to 40 interns and is responsible for administration of all professional internships including scheduling, timesheet, payroll and employment paperwork. The Internship Manager should be a mentor, motivating to staff and the young people served by Brighter Boston. They should be customer service oriented, have an eye for detail, and be a problem solver. They should be an advocate for youth, a clear communicator, and have a growth mindset. Applicants should have extensive technical theater/event production experience, experience teaching (formal or informal educational settings), and experience mentoring, hiring, and managing crews. Applicants should believe in empowering young people by creating opportunities for them to learn by doing. The Internship Manager should love the technical theater/event production industry and understand the unique needs of the industry.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Program Development and Administration
Oversee all internship placements and onboard youth.
Track, organize and distribute schedules via our database.
Maintain and organize payroll paperwork from interns, freelance mentors, and employers.
Oversee intern timesheets and confirm hours worked.
In collaboration with the Program Director, interview and select prospective interns and mentors.
In collaboration with the Programs Director, meet with each intern to determine their particular schedule with family, school and transportation, as well as their strengths, goals, and areas for growth. Help match them with an employer that aligns with those needs.
Maintain positive two way communication with interns and employers.
Help to recruit new employers, build relationships with industry partners, and be the ‘face’ of the organization to partner sites.
Relay program expectations and requirements to all interns and employers.
Complete in-person visits to worksites.
Help implement “Masterclass” programming as needed.
Foster a culture of trust, high expectations, and belonging.
Serve as a resource to young people in our program by sharing your knowledge and connections.
Program Evaluation
Administer program surveys and individual interviews with interns and track data.
Administer employer surveys and check-ins and track data.
Track self-reported and employer-reported intern training outcomes as co-designed with the Program Director.
Track intern attendance and implement interventions when necessary in coordination with the Program Director.
Minimum Qualifications
At least 6 years experience working in technical theater and/or event production with clear understanding of the skills necessary to work as a professional in the field, and at least one of the following technical areas of expertise: Lighting, Audio, or Technical Direction.
Strong managerial and organizational skills.
Commitment to promoting racial and economic justice in workforce development.
At least 3 years teaching/mentoring/running crews.
Experience working with youth and families from varied socioeconomic, racial, and ethnic backgrounds preferred.
Strong relationship building and customer service skills, and the ability to navigate between employer and intern needs.
Experience using Google Suite.
A good listener that provides solutions.
Experience administering payroll systems is a plus.
Experience with database software, specifically Airtable a plus.
Work Environment
This is a hybrid position combining virtual and in-person responsibilities.
This position is a combination of virtual and in-person work. Most administrative tasks and staff meetings are virtual. Intern onboarding, site visits, training, Masterclasses and career exploration activities are in-person. Must have sufficient mobility to travel to theaters and venues in the Boston area.
Hours of work: 40/week
Salary: $75,537.00
This is a full-time exempt position
